Fjallraven Keb Trousers Review
The Keb Trousers are a tough and rugged pair of pants that offer perfect protection, durability, and ease of movement. Built from Fjallraven’s G-1000 Eco fabric, they are highly wind- and water-resistant but also extremely breathable.
The G-1000 Eco fabric is used on the rear, front, and knees, while a second layer of material is added to the inside bottom of each leg panel for reinforcement against wear from hiking boots. These panels of G-1000 Eco are connected by stretch polyamide/polyester/elastane fabric that enhances fit while ensuring protection from the elements.
Fjallraven’s Greenland Wax
Fjallraven’s Greenland Wax is an impregnation made of paraffin and beeswax that can reinforce the water resistance of your G-1000 fabric garments. It is rubbed on and then melted into the garment, giving a hardwearing surface that is water resistant.
It is a simple process that can be repeated as often as necessary to improve the durability and lifespan of your garments. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical-based impregnation and can be applied easily using a hot iron or a hairdryer.
Fjallraven’s G-1000 fabric is a tightly woven blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton that is windproof, waterproof, and highly durable. During manufacture, it is impregnated with a wax that makes it more water-resistant and dirt-repellent. Over time, however, the wax will wash out, and the water resistance will reduce, so it is advisable to re-wax your garments regularly.
The Fabric
The Keb Trousers are technical hiking trousers that combine stretch and durability for maximum freedom of movement. They have a high waistband that fits the curved leg shape well, and there are reinforced areas around the seat, knees, and thighs with Fjallraven’s G-1000 Eco fabric.
The fabric used to make the front part of the trousers is made from a polyamide/polyester/elastane mix which helps with freedom of movement and comfort. The knees, thighs, and seat area is made from a heavyweight poly/cotton fabric known as G-1000 Eco, which is very tough and durable.
These trousers are a workhorse and are ideal for anyone who spends time outdoors in varying conditions, as they are highly durable and will last for years of use. They’re an excellent choice for hikers, wild campers, and anyone who works in the outdoors.
The Fit
The Keb trousers from Swedish outdoor brand Fjallraven are an award-winning pair of trekking pants. Designed for freedom of movement and durability on challenging treks, they feature stretch fabric combined with G-1000 Eco to deliver the toughness needed in the mountains.
In addition to the G-1000 Eco, which covers the front panel up to the upper thigh and the back of the legs, the knees, and the inside bottom, there is a layer of a lighter-weight stretch fabric that allows for a great degree of flexibility.
As well as being highly durable and flexible, these trousers are incredibly comfortable. I have worn them as full-length trousers with a wool baselayer underneath during cold, windy day hikes in winter and as shorts for warmer spring and summer hikes with no problems.
The Price
Fjallraven’s bestselling Keb trousers are outdoor trousers that can be used for various activities. They combine stretch and durability, while slim legs trap in warmth, and zippered leg vents on the calf and thigh regulate temperature.
The G-1000 fabric is heavy-duty and reinforced with a double layer for extra wear resistance. There are also several valuable features, including those above zipped and adjustable bottom cuffs.
A few years ago, Fjallraven introduced a wax-like substance that can be applied to the G-1000 material and impregnated with heat using an iron or hair dryer to give it water and wind resistance. This process, known as Greenland Wax, is a natural and environmentally friendly alternative to coating garments with chemically-based DWR solutions. It also improves the garment’s durability and lifespan. It is also user-tailored, allowing users to add or remove more Greenland Wax as required for different conditions and activities.
